Actifry™ pan comparison

Actifry-pans-are-different

Actifry pans (aka bowls, aka “body pot”) are different and not interchangeable for the most part.

This piece will briefly look at three pans: Actifry 2-in-1, Actifry Family Sized, and Actifry Classic.

The Actifry 2-in-1 pan and the Family Sized pan at first blush look roughly the same. They are both the same width (24 cm / 9.4 inches diameter), with a centre spindle of the same height (5.5 cm / 2.2 inches.)

Actifry Family Size and Actifry 2-in-1 pans are the same width.

Actifry Family Size and Actifry 2-in-1 pans are the same width: 24 cm (9.4 inches.)

The pans are also the same dark black colour and the same material.

The first difference though that is apparent is the handle.

The handles look very different and in fact, even function differently. The silver handle on the 2-in-1 pan comes apart, with the silver part serving as a hot tray lifter. The Family Size handle is a one-piece handle that does not come apart unless something is very wrong.

Note the different hole configuration at the back for the handles. Family Size (L); 2-in-1 (R)

The handle difference translates physically to the pans themselves. In the above photo of two well-worn pans minus their handles, note the different hole configurations at the back for the two different handles.

The Family Size pan on the left has two holes for its handle’s shafts to pass through to secure the handle. The 2-in-1 pan on the right has three holes for its handle.

Consequently a pan handle for one won’t work on the pan for the other: you have to order the specific handle for your model.

Family Size (L) 8 cm / 3 inches tall ; 2-in-1 (R) 9 cm / 3.5 inches tall

When placed side by side, it becomes apparent that the two pans are different heights.

The Family Size pan is 8 cm (3 inches) tall; the 2-in-1 pan is 9 cm (3.5 inches) tall.

The added height is probably to accommodate the top tray that the 2-in-1 machine has.

Actifry 2 in 1 pan with top supports

The 2-in-1 pan has two top-level supports on its rim, that the Family Size pan doesn’t have.

These two supports are there owing to the top tray that the 2-in-1 machine has, in order to help hold it up.

So there you have two pans that are temptingly similar but ultimately, not interchangeable.

Pan for regular Actifry

Pan for regular Actifry

Above, you see the pan for the Actifry Regular (aka Classic, aka Standard.)

This pan looks quite different right from the start, as it has no centre spindle at all, just a slightly raised hole.

This pan also fits the Actifry Gourmand (aka Gourmet) and Actifry Plus models, as well as the Actifry AL8000 line models. It should also fit the Actifry Snacking Model but do check that.

Replacement pans for Actifry

Replacement pans for Actifry cost surprisingly little so if something happens, don’t despair (do shop around though, as we have seen some inexplicably higher prices for the same pans.)

And to be clear, you can order the pans, handles and paddles separately, so you only need to pay for just the exact replacement part you need. If a pan dies on you for whatever reason (and you have to buy a new one rather than just return it), take the handle off and save it for the future, you never know!

I haven’t seen replacement pans for sale on Amazon (as of October 2014.) The pans are for sale, though on Ebay, and from T-Fal and SEB and other Actifry parts dealers in various countries.
